An Important Update from Father Nick 11/9
Dear St. Martin's Family,
As you may have heard, Governor Cuomo announced today that Grand Island is currently in a "yellow micro-cluster zone" and has changed the guidelines regarding public events including worship. The diocese of Western New York has responded to this announcement with revised guidelines that reflect the rapidly increasing number of new cases of COVID-19 in our area.
These guidelines mandate that no church service or event contain more than 25 people until we are removed from "micro-cluster" status. While the state has made an exemption for worship services allowing to contain 50% of building occupancy, the diocese is considering all church activities, including services, to fall under the "non-essential mass gathering" category which sets a limit of 25 people. As a parish of the diocese of Western New York, we are therefore required to follow the stricter of the two sets of rules as hard as that may be emotionally and spiritually for many.
I am therefore cancelling services for 11/14 and 11/15 in order to regroup and figure out how to go forward under these new orders. I will, however, be offering virtual worship via YouTube and will be sending out information on how to access that broadcast later in the week. I am sorry to have to be the bearer of this news, but I pray that as we make sacrifices now to combat the spread of the virus we may also quicken our return to a more familiar style of life and worship. I am praying for all of you during this difficult time and please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
To the greater glory of God,
